About

Al Khan began its original run in The Daily News Egypt in May 2008. In its first three series, it tracks the events following the return of Omar Shukri to his hometown of Cairo, Egypt, having left his banking job in the City of London. Those years would prove to be the lead up to what became the momentous Tahrir Square protests in 2011. Al Khan returned for a fourth series in 2013, published independently, set between Cairo, London and Cape Town.

Redemption: An Al Khan Series is an upcoming story set during the aftermath of the 1967 war.

Al Khan is written and illustrated by Egyptian-born cartoonist Tarek Shahin.

  5. Dear Mr Shahin,
I have followed your brilliant Al Khan since my wife and I had a wonderful holiday in Egypt in 2008. Your incisiveness and humour helped to explain with great clarity what has been happening in your country over the ensuing years and for that I thank you. We have never been back but will certainly do so one day. In the meantime I pray that the people of Egypt find peace and happiness soon. The gap between Series 3 and 4 was very hard without my daily fix but I presume that occurred whilst you re-established yourself in London. I was amazed, whilst doing a little research on you to find that you work for Investec. I have been working in PPP in the UK for the past 17 years and, find that you are a 3rd removed contact on LinkedIn – damn this electronic age, it sometimes gets a bit too spooky. I hope you carry on with Al Khan despite your day job because I think your messages are more important.
    Very best wishes
    Peter Cossins
